Menendez on Syria: U.S. Needs to Act to Stop ‘Greatest Humanitarian Catastrophe’

Text

Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman Robert Menendez laid out his thoughts about Syria on Hardball with Chris Matthews yesterday. “If we don’t want to see the greatest humanitarian catastrophe continue to go on, we have to change the dynamics because right now, there is no tipping point that Assad thinks he can fall,” Menendez said. He also raised concerns regarding the security of chemical-weapons sites and growing extremism in the region.

Matthews later asked him if he thought the U.S. “had the power and ingenuity to turn the war around so Assad loses.” “I do,” the New Jersey senator responded.
