Sens. Vitter and Brown Join Forces on Capital Requirements

by Reihan Salam

The fact that Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) and Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) have joined together to press the Fed to impose higher capital requirements on America’s largest, most systemically-important financial instituions is an encouraging development. David Dayen, a left-of-center reporter who pays close attention to the financial reform debate, has a short piece on the subject. This unusual alliance suggests that there is political percentage in pressing the case for financial reform from the right as well as from the left, which is yet another reason to lament the Romney campaign’s extreme caution and lack of imagination on this front.
