Why has the Romney-Ryan pivoted from reminding voters of the dismal state of the economy to issues like entitlements, health reform, welfare reform, and civil society? In a new National Journal column, Josh Kraushaar argues that while the critique of the president’s economic performance may have run its course — the economy is in better shape in key swing states than it is nationally, voters may have “priced in” the dismal economy — a center-right ideological agenda might actually have more appeal for disaffected independents than a pure referendum strategy.
