‘I have the feeling that after the second Thirty Years’ War, for that is what it is, through which we have just passed, mankind needs and seeks a period of rest.” So said Winston Churchill in 1948, speaking of the carnage-filled years from 1914 to 1945 during which the world was at constant war.
This Memorial Day, May 26, at 9 p.m. ET, HISTORY premieres its new, groundbreaking three-part series – World Wars — covering this period and the men who shaped it.
Narrated by Oscar® nominee Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker, The Town), World Wars tells the story of three devastating decades of war through the eyes of the powerful men who held the fate of humankind in their hands — men like Roosevelt, Hitler, Patton, Mussolini, Churchill, Tojo, de Gaulle and MacArthur. The series examines the two wars as one continuous timeline from 1914 to 1945 with these unique individuals coming of age on the battlefield before ultimately making some of the toughest decisions in the history of mankind.

“2014 is the 100-year anniversary of WWI, and for HISTORY and H2 this is an incredible honor and privilege to tell one of the greatest stories of all time in a very different way,“ said Dirk Hoogstra, executive vice president and general manager of HISTORY and H2. “World Wars will have the same quality and cinematic storytelling that The Men Who Built America and America: The Story of Us delivered to viewers, both of which served as phenomenal successes for HISTORY.”
TUNE IN! @HISTORY WILL BE LIVE TWEETING THE THREE-DAY SERIES
MAY 26-28 AT 9PM ET/PT
The series shows how the years between the wars only continued the violence and play for power by those who fought the First World War. What makes this series unique is that it is not simply an anthology of the two World Wars — it is a character-based drama that explores the nature of the men pulling the strings. The war is told through the perspectives of our main characters — Hitler, Churchill, Roosevelt, Stalin, Patton, de Gaulle and more. We see how their personal life experiences shaped their worldview, and influenced their decisions at a time when they affected millions of lives.
