Imagine a Jewish member of Congress accusing the members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) of wanting to see Jews gassed.
How would every decent American — Right and Left — describe such a statement? Loathsome? Morally reprehensible? An obvious lie?
All three descriptions would be entirely accurate.
Next question:
How much media exposure would that libel be given?

Front page in the New York Times and Washington Post? Ferocious editorials written from coast to coast? Lead stories on TV newscasts?
Correct on all three again.
Final question: Would said congressman be allowed to stay in office?
We all know the answer to that one, too.
So, here’s a real question: If a black congressman charged that members of Congress who support the Tea Party “would love to see you and me [blacks] hanging from a tree,” what is the difference between that libel and the made-up libel about the Congressional Black Caucus wanting to see Jews gassed?
The answer, of course, is that there is no difference.
But because the Left thinks in terms of race, gender, and class rather than in traditional moral terms of right and wrong, and because the Left dominates the media, only one of these two libels would be given the national attention and opprobrium they would both deserve.
Last week, Indiana congressman Andre Carson told a CBC gathering in Florida that members of Congress who are members of the Tea Party want to see blacks “hanging from trees.” Because he is both a Democrat and a black congressman, the liberal news media, which means essentially all our news media, have barely reported what is an almost uniquely vicious libel in American political history.
Given this uniqueness, it demands an explanation.
First, it is meant to create racial tension. Without racial tension — specifically, black Americans resenting white Americans, especially conservatives — the Democratic party fears that it cannot survive as a national party. And it is right. The day the majority of black Americans adopt the attitude that Washington Post correspondent Keith Richburg has written of (Out of America: A Black Man Confronts Africa) will mark the end of the Democratic party as a national force. As a black American, Richberg considers himself a member of the most fortunate group of blacks living anywhere in the world. No Democrat can win a presidential election without about 90 percent-plus of the black vote. And the only way to make sure of getting that vote is to label whites in general and conservatives in particular as racist.
Second, the CBC is happy to do this race-baiting for the Democrats. The CBC’s power emanates from their party’s power, so they need to tell fellow blacks regularly how despicable the American majority is — and therefore how only Democrats and the Left can save them from . . . even lynching.
Third, it is the CBC, not the Tea Party, that can be described as racist. While race plays no role in Tea Party membership, race is the only criterion for membership in the CBC. One must be black. Nothing else matters. A black member of Congress whose district is largely non-black can be a member of the CBC; but a non-black congressman whose district is largely black cannot be a member. Democratic congressman StevenCohen, whose Tennessee district is largely black, applied for membership in the CBC and was turned down for one reason. He is white.
I have a dream--I dream that one day in America, a person will be judged by the the content of his character and not by the color of his skin. Credit for this dream goes to a great man of a bygone era. By the way, I'm not black.
Of the literally hundreds of "caucuses" in Congress, the CBC's in-your-face racism is particularly egregious, especially in a country where racial discimination is illegal for the rest of us. It's time to disband all race-based, ethnicity-based and nationality-based caucuses as relics of the past. Please Google "Congressional caucuses" to discover how absurd and out of control this caucus "system" has become. You'll be amazed.
Of course, the CBC is race-baiting. However, this must be seen in the larger picture: the attack on the Tea Party is an integral element in the Democrat grand strategy to elect Obama and regain control of congress. As I see it, this is a three pronged strategy:
1. Denegrate and marginalize the Tea Party. Blame it for the budget fiasco. Race baiting is part of the plan.
2. Campaign big-time in Ohio and Wisconsin, and other states where the Republicans have passed legislation limiting collective bargaining for public employees. This is designed to get the unions out in droves in those crucial swing states.
3. Run a Harry Truman-like "do nothing congress" campaign. We already had hints of that in Obama's Labor Day speech in Detroit.
Yesterday's Detroit speech unrolled the entire blue print for the Democrats 2012 strategy. Obama goes after congress, unions go after the local Republicans, while Joe Biden, the CBC, and others go after the Tea Party.
LOL - heard it here first? What? That President Obama is running for re-election. Of Course he's going to highlight any perceived flaws in the Tea Party and GOP. Independents opinion of the tea party is at an all time low. Of course he's going to try to make sure his supports turn out in swing states. It's an election.
Yes M, and in the true thug-like fashion to which Obama is so accustomed, he will use any scummy, low-life, sleazy method to accomplish his goal. He's proven that time and again, so expecting a little honesty or a modicum of dignity from that man is a pipedream.
Remind me again - who are the racists, bigots, and divisive zealots in this country? Oh yeah, never mind. It's clearly the race-baiting class warfare thugs of the loony Left, led by Obama and the CBC.
I'm of the mind that Judo should be employed. Rather than fighting power, with power, we should use the hateful energy coming from the Left against them.
They expect us to fight back. Riots and further discontent serves their end.
The CBC is no better than the KKK. Their vile hateful comments have no place in America. I agree with Mr Prager that the CBC and too many liberals as well as the media keep this ongoing to cause "white hatred". I am sick of being referred to as "racist" just because I am a white female conservative. Any responsible person that makes comments like that should be hanged from the nearest tree....black or white. Oh, did I say responsible????

I gotta take issue with that statement. The CBC never murdered anyone.
But, I do agree that both organizations seek racial divisions in the country.
"The conscience of the Congress since 1971" should take heed from a line from the John Adams mini-series:
"Borne away by a torrent of passion, we make shipwreck of conscience."
Once you begin to realize that you really have no accomplishments in Congress, and nearly all your reasons, other than the gathering of personal power, have begun to evaporate - I guess you return to the fall back position of slavery and bigotry.
Unfortunately, it is the speed to which the "race card" is played and the roll of victim is assumed, that lends to the perpetuation of "inequalities". I do not mean to imply that bigotry and hatred does not exist, but I do state that the Tea Partiers are more likely to define a person for their qualities rather than color. I expect you to be responsible and willing to be held accountable for your actions. In fact, I would ask why, over the course of nearly 150 years, you have supported and elected representation that to this day insists on drawing their power by maintaining a debilitating status quo - when you have the ability to change it?
I believe therein lies the answer to why the Democrat Party, Liberals, and the Press gives a pass to such behavior by the CBC.
The fact that black members of Congress like Charlie Wrangel, Alcee Hastings and Maxine Waters do what they do with impunity shows that no one wants to confront the CBC and its members. They know they can get away with anyting, and do.
It is not only the content of Andre Carson's remarks, but the reaction to it that, should give black liberals pause. Another reason there would be general outrage over your mythical Jewish Congressman's remarks is that he would be regarded as a serious person.
Even if you behave as a reliable attack dog for your masters, in the end the master still regards you as a dog. And so does the one being attacked. Does the CBC really want the world to look at them and think, "Well, they just don't know any better."?
Excellent point. And, of course, it can be extended to black America in general, which is always held to far lower standards of behavior than everybody else. Blacks receive far more forebearance--even praise--for doing far less (or worse) than the rest of us.
As a teen growing up in Virginia when MLK gave his "dream" speech my friends and family were all struck by his clarity and truth. The speech cut and spoke to our hearts and changed a generation.
The playing of the race card on the Tea Party is as vile and despicable as racism is. A lie spewed from the lying tonge of the father of lies.
Thank you Dennis your observations are right on.
Perhaps becuase I grew up on our northern border, my first thought when I saw the CBC teaser line on your home page was "Why are Canadians calling the Tea Party racist?"
For me, the first definition of CBC will always be Canadian Broadcasting Company, not Congressional Black Caucus. Better to think of a group promoting hockey, curling, and "The Republic of Doyle," than one promoting racial divides and animosity.
"Congressional Black Caucus calls itself 'the conscience of the Congress since 1971.'" Wow! Now it makes perfect sense why the approval rating of Congress hovers at about 12%. If racist nutjobs are "the conscience of the Congress" then the Congress has no conscience.
I'm guessing that when Barrack loses, we'll see third world style rioting around the country, which is what these people want, and exactly why they hate the 2nd ammendment so much.
