A bunch of racists in South Carolina are trying to hold down blacks by forcing them, and everybody else, to show photo identification before they can vote.
Astonishing!
Luckily, Attorney General Eric Holder is on it. As he declared in Columbia, S.C., last Martin Luther King Day, the Palmetto State “failed to meet its burden of proving that the voting change would not have a racially discriminatory effect.” Holder’s deputy, Assistant Attorney General Thomas E. Perez, blocked this provision on December 23, citing “the racial gap that presently exists among photo identification holders in the state.” Specifically, “8.4% of white registered voters lacked any form of DMV-issued ID, as compared to 10.0% of non-white registered voters.” This 1.6-percentage-point gap can mean only one thing: racism.

As a black man, I say, “Power to Holder!” I just hope this brave public servant can find the time to fight all the racists who are imposing on blacks, and everyone else, the extreme indignity of showing ID cards. This undue burden parallels the colored water fountains and lunch counters that vanished 48 years ago. As Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz explained: Photo-ID advocates “want to literally drag us all the way back to Jim Crow laws and literally — and very transparently — block access to the polls to voters who are more likely to vote Democratic.”
The horror!
Holder should start by cleaning house in his own building.
A bunch of racists at the Justice Department expect blacks, and everybody else, to show picture ID. Justice’s website repeatedly states: “Photo ID is required to clear security at all locations.” As Jeff Aronson observed in the New York Post: “Before a citizen can enter the US Department of Justice’s office to complain about the need to produce a photo ID before voting, that citizen will need to produce a photo ID to gain entry.”
Such bigotry!
Holder can curb ethnic bias at once by scrapping his department’s photo-ID rule.
Next, Holder should visit Washington’s Union Station. A bunch of racists decided that “Amtrak customers 18 years of age and older must produce valid photo identification when . . . onboard trains, in response to a request by an Amtrak employee,” and under other particular circumstances. Amtrak’s website lists this regulation, which is targeted at blacks, and everyone else.
For shame!
If Holder tours any American airport, he can watch a bunch of racists in the Transportation Safety Administration demand that blacks, and everyone else, show photo ID before boarding passenger jets. The TSA could not care less about centuries of anti-black oppression. Instead, their agents just sit there, waiting for passengers to reveal their picture-ID cards.
Yes indeed! I was converted from the left some decades ago in part as the result of my exposure to race mongering in Guam and the general neck of the woods. I was involved as a linguist in bilingual education for the general area. The local elite, trained (or rather pampered) by American do-gooders in the education racket, quickly learned to imitate Black Power racists. And the stupid, guilt-ridden honky/haoles played along with it. 'Twas a scam, a total scam. A turning point came for me, as I was sitting in an office in Koror, Palau. The wife of a charming loudmouth mooch, "educated" at the University of Hawaii in lefty claptrap, looked up from her desk, whence she collected a comfortable salary for doing Lord-knows-what, and complained about American contract workers: "They're taking all our money." Yeah, "our" money, i.e. the US taxpayers' money...
If I weren't so tenderhearted, I'd say: "OK, you Chamorros in Guam. Go for independence. Then make a treaty with, oh, say China, and see what happens to you once the honky/haoles are gone!"
Curious how many other states have now adopted abhorrent and xenophobically nationalistic requirements regarding driver's licenses. Hawaii actually will be demanding proof of citizenship/legal status before issuing or renewing licenses. Holder better check this out too, no doubt there's a discrimination issue to make hay of. Of course Hawaii isn't run by republicans....
It it is 'racist' to require a photo id to vote then it must be equally so to require it for casing a check or to verify identity for a credit card, etc. Why is that not on the agenda list to abolish?
Wow Deroy! I hope NRO bombards the White (is that racist?) House with these eye-popping revelations. Funny how the very same photo ID that gives us access to planes, trains, and flu-like pains, gets lost at the bottom of our purse when it comes time to vote. Of course, we all know that the real reason liberals oppose photo IDs is that it will make it harder--though far from impossible--to continue their long tradition of voter fraud. "Voter fraud is virtually non-existent," they insist, as they whine about the difficulty, expense and inconvenience of obtaining these free, readily available proofs of identity. We know and they know that they don't want any firm proof of voter identity because that might force voters to vote Democrat only once, not to mention some other pesky details, such as American citizenship. You nailed it, Deroy. Your gratuitous use of the word "racist" sucks away its power and exposes it for what it is: Nada. Zip. Zilch.
As Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz explained: Photo-ID advocates “want to literally drag us all the way back to Jim Crow laws and literally — and very transparently — block access to the polls to voters who are more likely to vote Democratic.”
Holder is utterly pathetic, in my opinion the most racist person to hold the Office of Attorney General in my lifetime. What a weak and pitiful attempt to score points in the black community and convince them that "racist" white people are always looking for ways to hold them back and deprive them of their rights - on an issue that is merely basic common sense. Fortunately there is a broad and vibrant alterrnative media available now where people can find the truth - and, judging by the popularity of voter photo ID laws, the word is getting out and crossing racial lines. The vast majority of people - regardless of race - just want fair and honest elections. It's a shame that we have such a divisive and self-righteous Administration in office at this vital point in our history.
On the other hand, at my polling place where I've voted for the last ten years, the same lady poll worker greets most of us by name (black and white alike, we're about 35/65 around here) before we can even open our mouths, and has our names checked off by the time we get to the table. I can't see that our new voter ID law will be of much value to her. But then, there are many advantages to living in rural areas!
Obama and Holder are both power mad Black racists who are out "to get even" against Whites, the successful, tax payers, military, and anyone else they associate with "White dominance". To this particular hateful prejudice Obama - an undoubted closet Muslim - adds hatred of Christians. These people are generating, fueling, and inciting serious violence in our country and the coming 2012 elections could provide the ignition mechanism. Unfortunately, the idea that the Obama regime will move toward the moderate is inconceivable and this violence seems unavoidable. Oh yes, and if Big Sis and her gang are reading this - the provocative behavior of your thugs are adding to the temperature. Reis Kash - Springfield, Oregon
Literally block access to polls with a photo ID requirement she says. How about with a Black Panther carrying a billy club? I'd say that's a much more literal blocking of a polling place. Maybe I'm confused about the meaning of the word literal??? ; )

Why doesn't the GOP ask all Democrats why they are in favor of Voter Fraud? What other reason could there be for opposing ID? If the shoe was on the other foot, the Dems would do that. Because the Dems are interested in winning.
Last night on the national ABC News business feed to our local TV station, the ABC reporter stated that the "Robo-Signing" settlement was reached because "Robo-signing" was a large cause of the recession. Why not blame the banks? The GOP won't call attention to the fact that it was largely caused by misguided leftist attempts to put people in houses they cannot afford.
This morning on the St. Paul radio station, Michelle Bachmann was crowing about her "Bi-Partisan" effort to allow Wisconsin & Minnesota to build a bridge over the river between them. A bridge that's been stopped by leftists for years. But not one word did the supposedly conservative Ms. Bachmann take any credit for the fact that if it were not for the GOP, we would never have a bridge. Did not mention that the left promised when it made the river a Federal Wild & Scenic River that it wouldn't interfere with projects like this bridge. Another lie. Not one word from the GOP.
When will the GOP fight? Or are they only trying to grab the reigns of power for themselves and therefore do not want to cut back on big government.
Very good article. Obama and Holder are the racists and dividers and they are destroying this nation. The Congress also needs to be removed. With 46 million Americans on Food Stamps and increasing daily, and several million Americans on free cell phones, paid by the people who pay their own cell phone and land line bills, something is radically wrong. And it is not because the "Rich" don't pay enough taxes. It is because the lazy are bought off by the politicians. Obama needs to go now! There is no time to wait. November of 2012 is too far away.

Voting against Democratic candidates is racist because Democrats are opposed to racism. Electing Democrats is therefore a good way to end racism, but honest elections won't work because most Americans (at least 70%) are racist, as the article demonstrates. So those committed to ending racism must vote early and often by casting votes for the deceased, or other nonexistent people. That would be a lot harder if you have to show a photo ID.
Deroy, you left out WHY the Obama Administration (and Holder) can complain about SC voter ID laws. The Civil Rights Act and it's reauthorization a few years back. This nice little piece of @%$# (I meant legislation) enables the Northern states to make any changes they want to their voting legislation and makes the Southern states beholden to the Feds for ANYTHING! Change precinct lines due to population changes?, better ask for permission. If a black holds a seat, it's a "black seat" forever (unless the Black is conservative). Have a school blown down in a tornado?, better ask permission to change the polling place. This abomination of a law unfairly considers all Southerners guilty until proven innocent (as most "racial" laws do).
Another excellent case for Thomas Jefferson's states rights of nullification. When the federal government attempts to impose bad laws and regulations, pass a state law that strikes it down. Tie it up in the courts for years.
And don't give me the line about the commerce clause and the supremacy clause. Thomas Jefferson knew better and so do I.
There's got to be many racists here in Texas. Many store clerks expect you to present a photo ID when using a credit card or cashing a check. I'm sure Holder considers that a racist act.
Thanks for another great column, Mr. Murdock. I sincerely hope that this article gets read by as many people as possible. Sometimes sarcasm is the best weapon against the empty-headed arguments that the Left presents.
The Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts are explicit in their mandate. Holder was carrying out those laws. You want to argue against the voting reforms of the 1960's? Then do so. But be honest about what you're arguing against.
