EC: KANE'S NIFTY SITE [David Hogberg 10/22 08:04 PM]

No realistic scenario for Kerry without Florida? You must not be trying very hard Kane. Here’s how. Put California, Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii in Kerry’s column. Then create a blue strip that goes from Maine all the way west to Minnesota and Iowa, interrupted only by Indiana (be sure D.C. is in there too.) The only states that are in this group that Gore didn’t win last time are New Hampshire and Ohio, both of which are close right now. Thing is, it totals 279, so Kerry can still lose New Hampshire and win. Or he could win there and still lose Iowa.

And that didn’t include New Mexico in Kerry’s column. Throw that in there, then Kerry can afford to lose New Hampshire and anyone of the following: Iowa, Minnesota, or Wisconsin.

Thus, I still think it is a mistake for Bush to go to Michigan. Yes, okay, it’s right next to Wisconsin and Ohio, and Bush will probably visit one of those two that same day. But it reminds me of Bush’s decision to campaign in California in 2000 during the last week-and we all know how that turned out.
