PENNSYLVANIA: SIGN TRICKS [Chris Lilik 10/22 08:08 PM]

51-year old Chris Alker of Lower Providence Township in Montgomery County, Pa. has an interesting but effective way to deal with yard sign thefts: slathering the tops of his signs with roofing tar.

According to a Philadelphia Inquirer story on his novel ideal, Alker's signs haven't been stolen for the past three elections. "The last time anyone messed with me was the Gore election [of 2000]," Alker, a former construction worker, told the paper. "They got as far as the street with the sign and then they dumped it." Alker says not only will the black tar take three or four weeks to get off a perpetrator's body, but its the odor is not very pleasant.
