At first blush Arkansas looks like an unlikely battleground for the presidential contest. Throw out the Clinton years and the shadow of Watergate (1976) and the last quality win for Democrats in Arkansas was 1964. (Johnson 314,197, 56.1 percent, Goldwater 243,264, 43.4 percent)
A new poll released today by the Stephens Media Group/Arkansas News Bureau has the presidential race all tied up. Only days ago the same poll had Bush topping Kerry by nine points. Will the Kerry campaign start spending dollars in The Natural State? Will the Bush campaign recall the campaign workers who were shipped out to Colorado and Florida?
