VARIOUS: POLLS & NYTROGATE [David Hogberg 10/26 12:58 PM]
A few thoughts about the Washington Post and Rasmussen polls, both that showed Kerry with a slight lead yesterday. If you look at the trends of both polls, you’ll notice they have a tendency to tighten up every few days in Kerry’s direction, usually near weekends. Why that is, I have no idea, but the polls probably do not mean Kerry is surging. Today’s Rasmussen has it tied again, at 47.8%, suggesting that it is swinging back toward Bush.
Now that the New York Times has egg on its face again (ah, that is music to the ears, no?), Bush supporters should do all they can to play up the false weapons
story. (For a great rundown, see N.Z. Bear.) Dubbed “NYTrogate” by PoliPundit, the last time this happened in Rathergate, the President’s poll numbers got a boost. The majority of Americans feel that the press is liberally biased, and they don't appreciate the media running false stories intended to hurt the President. This is the story Bush supporters should hype, not the
U.N.-Kerry one.
