PENNSYLVANIA: WHAT YOU NEED TO VOTE [Chris Lilik 11/02 10:14 AM]
Just got a call that some Pittsburgh polling locations are not asking new precinct voters for their IDs.
In PA, first time voters and new district voters are required by law to show identification.
WHAT FORMS OF ID DO I NEED TO VOTE? AND WHAT IF I FORGET MY ID ON ELECTION DAY? If you're voting in an election district for the first time, you'll need an approved form of identification. See pages 6-7 for a complete listing of acceptable voter identification. If you're voting for the first time in that election district and you forget your ID, you may return later with proper ID and vote in the regular manner, or you may choose to cast a provisional ballot. On Election Day, the district elections officials will instruct you on how to cast a provisional ballot.
According to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review (http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/tribune-review/trib/regional/s_268327.html), "The most notable difference from the 2000 election will be that new federal and state laws require voters showing up for the first time in an election district to present proof of identification."
The precincts were 14th Ward 19th polling place and 14th Ward 11th polling place. Squirrel Hill and Regent Square are both heavily Democrat. Both people were new voters in their district.
Then something insane happened to Pittsburgh's Stan Shivell, who is a regular voter and just moved to our town's Bloomfield area. Stan says he has voted in every election since moving to the Pittsburgh area:
I'm Stan Shivell And I'm a Disenfranchised Voter
(http://www.dejafoo.net/story.php?id=1328)
My vote won't be counted.
I moved and changed my address in August. I was sent an update to my voter registration card.
I showed up to my new polling location and waited in line for 30 minutes. I was not in the box.
It's interesting to note that my Card says "Republican" and the district I live in is heavily Democrat.
I was told to try my old polling place, so I went. I did not exist there either.
Guess who filled out a Provisional Ballot that most likely will not be counted! That's right. ME.
