I arrived at the polls in Middlesex county (North Brunswick, NJ). It is district 17, the polling place is the Hidden Lake Apartment Office Complex. Surprisingly, neither my wife nor I were in the book. We were told that we must not be registered. I have been registered for 20 years and have lived in District 17 for the past 9 years, voting in every election and never having a problem like this. My wife has been registered for 6 years (Polish born, nationalized US Citizen in 1998) and has also voted for 6 years without a problem.
After being told we couldn't vote because we weren't registered, I was very frustrated and made a bit of a scene at the polling place. Then I was told that I could fill in a "provisional ballot". First off, they gave me the ballot (and my wife) without asking for ID. So anybody can fill one out. Secondly, I can only hope that the ballot gets counted.
The "topper" for me was that I spoke to another neighbor, also conservative, who had the same problem. And I noticed when I was searching in the book for my name that my immediate neighbor across the street (an extreme leftwing liberal) was in the book (Deitch is his name, so it was right next to where "De Cicco" should have been).
Granted, I may be paranoid and it may be that it is pure coincidence, but in this day and age, I wanted to at least notify the Republican party in Middlesex. Unfortunately, I have left 2 messages already today and no response.
