MICHIGAN: THE CURSE OF GORE [Henry Payne 11/02 10:11 PM]
The Curse of Al Gore has, sadly, come to Michigan. The NAACP has filed suit in Detroit claiming voter intimidation, and has requested that polls stay open longer tonight. The Michigan Republican Party is also complaining about the tactics of MoveOn.org also over voter intimidation.
"Voter intimidation does exist in Michigan and it is Democrats that are practicing it," said MRP Executive Director Greg McNeilly. "With their black arm bands and menacingly positioned "check in" tables, John Kerry's field organization, MoveOn.org, is causing excessive damage to the integrity of this election. The D in Democrat is short for Disenfranchisement. This is just another in what is now a long list of Democrat attempts to destroy the integrity of this election."
Meanwhile, The Detroit News' first exit poll of the evening out at 6 pm gives John Kerry a narrow 50-47 lead among 800 voters. The difference is within the poll's margin of error of plus or minus four points a tribute to the strong last-ditch effort by the Bush campaign to press for votes in Michigan, which experts had all but given to Kerry two weeks ago before a lone News poll showed movement in Bush's direction.
And, on another vote of national interest, The News' exit poll indicates that Proposal 2, the state constitutional ban on same-sex marriage, would pass easily.
