ABA Lobbying for Votes on Obama’s Judicial Nominees

The president of the American Bar Association has sent a letter to Senate majority leader Harry Reid and Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell that “urge[s]” them “to schedule floor votes on three pending, noncontroversial circuit court nominees before July” and “to work together to move consensus district court nominees to the floor for a vote throughout the rest of the session.”

A Senate staffer in the know tells me that the ABA never sent a similar letter on behalf of George W. Bush’s nominees.

Update: In his own post criticizing the ABA’s partisanship (or at least criticizing its confirming the appearance of partisanship), Orin Kerr notes that ABA presidents in 2010 and 2011 also weighed in with senators to urge prompt action on President Obama’s judicial nominees.
