Re: Governor Perdue Kills Merit Selection

by Carrie Severino

In a move that surprised no one, North Caroline governor Bev Perdue has appointed appellate judge Cheri Beasley to the Supreme Court of North Carolina. Perdue had to issue an executive order and abandon the judicial-nominating commission she created in order to make the appointment. That said, it does little to alter the ideological makeup of the court, since Beasley is believed to share the same liberal approach to the law as her predecessor, Justice Patricia Timmons-Goodson.
