Nominee News

by Jonathan H. Adler

I’ve been derelict in posting much on judicial nominees, but things are moving so here’s something of an update.  Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved three appellate nominees:  Robert E. Bacharach (U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit), William J. Kayatta, Jr. (U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit), and Richard Gary Taranto (U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit).  BLT covers the nominations here.  Also today, the committee held over consideration of a dozen or so other nominees, including two for appellate courts: Caitlin Halligan (U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit) and Patty Shwartz  (U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit).

On the nomination side of things, last week President Obama nominated Wyoming Attorney General Gregory Phillips to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and Jane Kelly, an assistant public defender in Iowa, to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Today the President made two additional nominations, Raymond Chen and Todd Hughes, to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
