Re: Fr. Neuhaus, First Things, and the Constitution

My admiration for Fr. Neuhaus is more profound than my words are eloquent, and I wholeheartedly embrace the tributes from Matt and from many folks on The Corner.  Beyond reading his work, including in his wonderful journal First Things, I’m blessed to have come to know Fr. Neuhaus in my ongoing role as head of the Ethics and Public Policy Center.  Fr. Neuhaus served on EPPC’s board until his death yesterday, and he and the late (and also great) Jeane Kirkpatrick were two-thirds of the executive committee that hired me as EPPC’s president five years ago.  Whatever the merits of that decision, Fr. Neuhaus was wise and brilliant and delightful—and a giant of a public intellectual.  May he rest in peace.
