Especially in light of the cheap shots flung at me earlier this year by the New York Times’s public editor and by the Slate sisters, I hope that readers won’t mind if I publicly express my gratitude to Brookings fellow Benjamin Wittes for calling me one of his “two absolute favorite combatants in the wars over the courts.”  (My sparring partner Doug Kendall of the Constitutional Accountability Center is the other.)  Given my high regard for Ben and his work and given our many areas of disagreement, I’m particularly grateful for his generous assessment.
