Feckless Cowards

Yet further evidence that Senate Democrats are not fit to govern:  I’m reliably informed that Congressional Quarterly will soon report that Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee have indicated that they have asked President Bush to withdraw his nomination of Leslie Southwick to the Fifth Circuit in advance of tomorrow’s scheduled committee vote.

The underlying reality is that the Left has waged such a scurrilous and baseless campaign against Southwick (which I discuss here and here) that even Senate Democrats are ashamed by it.  But they’re afraid to stand up to their crazies (i.e., their base) and hope that President Bush will rescue them from their dilemma of choosing between being Ralph Neas’s pawns and acting with even a modicum of decency and responsibility.
