Congress to Consider New Judgeships

by Jonathan H. Adler

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy wants to increase the number of federal judgeships, according to this report.  More federal district court judges in California is a high priority, apparently, and the judicial conference has called for over a dozen new appellate slots on the bench.  This won’t mean new vacancies for President Bush to fill, however, as the current Democratic plan is to make the new slots effective after the next election.
