The Stimson Resignation

Over at The Corner, folks have been discussing the Friday resignation of Cully Stimson from the Pentagon.  I blogged about the flap in this space fairly early on, and took the view that what Stimson had said about lawyers representing Gitmo detainees was unobjectionable except that he was the one who said it—a government official, that is, rather than a private commentator.  Now I have read Andy McCarthy’s long reply on The Corner to Jonathan Adler and I have to say I’m convinced by it, and would now retract even my fairly mild criticism of Stimson.  The guy was hounded from office for speaking truth to power—to coin a phrase.
