Defending Detainees

by Jonathan H. Adler

In reference to the flap over deputy assistant secretary of defense for detainee affairs Cully Stimson’s comments about law firms that represent detainees, I found Stimson’s remarks wholly inappropriate for a government official, particularly one who is a member of the bar and who (as a former prosecutor) should be intimately familiar with the relevant standards of professional responsibility.  Former Reagan Solicitor General Charles Fried also objected (see here ).  My posts on the matter at the Volokh Conpiracy are chained here .
