Bush Nominates GOP Judges

by Jonathan H. Adler

A new investigative piece in Salon reports the shocking news that many of the Bush Administration’s judicial nominees donated to Republican campaigns, including that of Bush himself, prior to their nominations to the bench.  This is news? Please. Most judicial nominees who are not already on the bench are prominent practicing lawyers with strong ties to their party.  (This is true for both Republicans and Democrats.)  Therefore it would be a surprise if they didn’t donate to their party’s candidates for national office prior to becoming judges.  This would be particularly true for those who themselves held elective or party office prior to becoming a federal judge.  Although there’s really nothing to this story, some are trying to make it an issue in the election.
