Re: Losing the Judge Issue

I’m not at all sure that I agree that judicial nominations can’t still be a significant issue in the 2006 elections.  Among other things, the fact that the federal partial-birth abortion case will be argued this fall (quite possibly in early November) will draw attention both to the signal successes of the Roberts and Alito nominations and to the broader divide between the parties on the role of the judiciary. In any event, I don’t want to take public sides in any blame game. 

For what it’s worth, the observation that Jonathan attributes to me was primarily developed in the course of an article that discussed the adverse effects that various senatorial privileges have on the selection and confirmation of judicial nominees.
