Making Austin Less Weird?

Text

I had the pleasure of speaking to the Austin Lawyers Chapter of the Federalist Society last Thursday on “The Next Supreme Court Vacancy”.  It is, I suppose, a sign of the special challenges that chapter faces that the unofficial motto of the Texas state capital is “Keep Austin Weird.”  That chapter seems well prepared to face those challenges, and I was delighted to speak to an excellent audience that included Judge Priscilla Owen and Judge Will Garwood of the Fifth Circuit and Texas supreme court justice Don Willett.

I also very much enjoyed my lunchtime debate on judicial activism last Friday before some 700 lawyers (and lots of judges) attending the annual meeting of the State Bar of Texas.
