Frist Says No Filibuster

This morning Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist made clear that he would seek to break any Democratic filibuster of Samuel Alito’s nomination to the Supreme Court. “Supreme Court justice nominees deserve an up-or-down vote, and it would be absolutely wrong to deny him that,” Frist said. Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) was not pleased with these comments, remarking “Sen. Frist has thrown down the gauntlet at a time when the country least needs it.
