Washington Post on Miers and Roe

Yesterday and today, in speculating about Miers’s position on Roe v. Wade, the Washington Post has run one headline that reads “Miers says no one knows if she would ban abortion” and a sub-headline to another article that reads “On Hill, Miers Discounts Report That She Would Vote to Outlaw Abortions.”

Note to the Washington Post’s editors and headline writers: To overturn Roe is not to “ban” or “outlaw” abortion. It is instead to restore regulation of abortion to the democratic processes. This should not be regarded as a subtle point.
