Miers’s Qualifications

I don’t think it is fair for folks to suggest that Harriet Miers is unqualified. Does her record match that of Chief Justice Roberts? Of course not – but whose does? (Answer: No one.) Miers has had a distinguished legal career, even if she does not meet the impossible-to-match Roberts standard. Her qualifications are comparable to those of Justice Lewis Powell when he was nominated to the Supreme Court by President Nixon, and arguably greater than other non-judges picked for the Court in the past several decades.
