On a long train ride yesterday, I finally found the occasion to read through a book published late last year, Scalia Dissents: Writings of the Supreme Court’s Wittiest, Most Outspoken Justice, edited by Kevin A. Ring. I am delighted to report that Ring has done an excellent job selecting the right Scalia opinions to highlight, placing them in appropriate context, and offering intelligent commentary. The book is well suited for both lawyers and non-lawyers.

So, if you’re a Scalia admirer, buy lots of copies of this book and give them to friends and relatives. And if you’re somehow not a Scalia admirer, buy this book so that you’ll understand better why you should be. (For the record, I don’t know Ring, so don’t mistake my endorsement as biased by partiality towards him. I do, admittedly, have a bias–a well-informed one, I think–in favor of Scalia.)
