The White House lied when it declared, “the President-Elect had no contact or communication with Governor Blagojevich or members of his staff about the Senate seat,” and it covered up Obama’s effort to communicate his preferred choice of Valerie Jarrett, allege the noted right-wing maniacs at . . . er, Time magazine.
On Tuesday, an Illinois union leader, Thomas Balanoff, testified that he received a phone call the day before the election from President Obama to discuss Valerie Jarrett and the Senate seat. Balanoff would serve as a go-between, connecting the Obama inner circle to the Blagojevich inner circle.
Balanoff could be lying, of course, but he is under oath.
You fail to appreciate the appropriate parsing of the words. Obama called the day before the election -- he was not the President-Elect at the time. So the WH statement was literally correct. This what I would expect the media spin will be.
