Al Franken’s Broad Definition of
‘Close Attention’

A Campaign Spot reader who also peruses Newsweek — so we don’t have to, I suppose — notices this line in their profile of Al Franken:

“I spent hours in the chair,” Franken told NEWSWEEK, presiding over dreary speeches. “You have no choice when you’re a freshman . . . But the thing about it is, instead of using the time to write thank-you notes, I pay close attention to what’s going on.”

This comes out days after Franken is caught doodling Sen. Jeff Sessions (R., Ala.) during the Kagan hearings and appeared to be falling asleep during one hearing.
