Inspired by Friday’s post, Jeff Dobbs looks at Obama’s favorite economic assessment — “we’re moving in the right direction” — and notes that it tends to crop up no matter what the circumstances:
There's a reason for this. Obama and his people keep referencing Reagan's first two years. This is their version of stay the course. It is conventional wisdom on the left that Reaganomics had nothing to do with the turn around of the economy. It just magically happened by itself.
That's in part why they have offered nothing as far as policy to address the economy. They simply assumed it would heal up all by itself like it always does.
Remember when Obama made all sorts of hay when McCain said "The fundamentals of our economy are strong"? What's the difference between what McCain said then and what Obama's saying now?
