I’ll Bet the New Mexico GOP Hopes Bill Richardson Attends a Lot of Rallies

Looking at some new polls out of New Mexico… if Republican Suzanna Martinez leads the gubernatorial race over Democrat Lt. Gov. Diane Denish, 45 percent to 39 percent, then neither Rep. Martin Heinrich nor Rep. Harry Teague should feel all that great about narrow leads (6 points and 3 points, respectively) over their GOP challengers.

The poll finds Gov. Bill Richardson’s approval rating at… 33 percent.

"Pretty Boy" Heinrich's opponent, Jon Barela, has just started his media ads. Heinrich is a lot less popular than he thinks, and Barela has a good chance to beat him. Teague only won because (a)his predecessor, Steve Pearce, was making an ill-advised run for the Senate, and (b)Obama had coattails then. Now Pearce is back, and despite vicious ads against him, will almost certainly get his old seat back. That will leave only NM-3, unfortunately where I live, in Democratic control, God willing.
