Word is Charlie Crist is announcing something today. My guess is he’s pursuing his dream of being a Major League Baseball pitcher.
Quinnipiac tells us the Florida Senate race is unchanged:
In the Florida U.S. Senate race, Republican Marco Rubio is running away with a commanding 44 – 30 percent likely voter lead over Gov. Charlie Crist, running as an independent, with Democrat U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek third with 22 percent, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.
Today’s results are essentially unchanged from a September 30 poll by the independent Quinnipiac University, in which Rubio led Crist 46 – 33 percent with Meek getting 18 percent of likely voters.
Florida likely voters disapprove of President Barack Obama’s job performance 54 – 43 percent, a slight improvement from October 1 when they disapproved 56 – 40 percent.
HotAir speculates it may be Crist coming out as a Democrat - either by standing with some prominent Democrats to call on Meek to drop out, or by announcing that he would caucus with Democrats if elected in order to pull Meek supporters to his side (which right now seems stronger for Democrats looking only to stop Rubio).
PPP has a race between "Independent" Crist and "Republican" Rubio at 46-46. I think that is inaccurate. I feel like any announcement that Crist will be taking the Democratic side will lose him some Republican support that he has managed to hold by calling himself "independent". While Crist would still be "independent" - I think that the meaning of that word in voters minds will change, and will be much less attractive to Republican-identifying voters. Rubio will get to point to the long list of "independents" who are reliable Democratic votes (Lieberman, Sanders, Jeffords before that).
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseI'm guessing the closing of the US Sugar (save the Everglades) deal along with RKF Jr.'s endorsement.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseMaybe Crist is launching a new campaign logo

I'd like to thank the Academy...
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseSooo.. . . it's well past 10:30 am and the internets haven't 'sploded yet. Seems that Charlie's great announcement was indeed that the much-coveted RFK Jr. endorsement has been locked down. White flags seen flying all over Florida, and cries of "uncle" echo o'er the Everglades.
Crimeny. Find me a patch of broken glass, so's I can crawl through it, cast my votes, and get on with life.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseIf Meek drops out and all and sundry Meek and Crist support coalesces around Crist, we might have a race. Otherwise Crist will get the political end he so richly deserves.
