Bad News, Leader Pelosi. The In-Flight Movie Is ‘An American Carol.’

A reader wonders just how badly Nancy Pelosi wants to be House Minority Leader: “Let’s see how she feels after a year or so of flying on (shudder) commercial airplanes with hoi polloi. She may decide that’s too great a sacrifice and retire to Marin County.”

She’ll probably have to get by on First Class, presuming no friendly CEO is willing to help out with a private jet. Perhaps Barney Frank and Chellie Pingree can give recommendations.

Oh man! Can you imagine being seated next to her on a cross-country flight?

"Excuse me steward/ess, I think my seatmate may be one of the Undead. Is it too late to switch seas?"

The Horror.

What would be hilarious is if Nancy Pelosi finds a way to fly, at least occasionally, in a private jet. It’s hard to imagine her as someone who could easily give it up. As Speaker, I can sort of see why a private jet might be acceptable. It’s not that I agree with it, but I can understand arguments for flying the Speaker in his/her own jet. But as a normal member of the House, there is little justification for it, especially for someone wishing to paint the other party as out of touch and frequently declaring that CO2-caused climate change is real. Nancy Pelosi may be extremely wealthy but, given what little I know about the size of her wealth and the costs of owning and operating a private jet, may not be wealthy enough to get her own private jet. I’m assuming she and her husband don’t already own one, and buying one now would be politically embarrassing even if they could. Maybe she could afford to charter a private jet, I suppose, but that too would be embarrassing (plus really expensive to do on a regular basis). Again, I don’t know a whole lot about what her options are as far as transportation goes with respect to her wealth, but it does seem to me that she isn’t the type to take commercial travel in stride and yet the private option may no longer be an economic or political option for her

it's worth asking, will the republican leadrship go back to 2005 air travel requirements? Is there any need to continue using the air fleet that pelosi has built?
