President Obama, yesterday: “I’ve asked leaders of both parties and both houses of Congress to come here to the White House on Thursday so we can build on the work that’s already been done and drive towards a final agreement. It’s my hope that everybody is going to leave their ultimatums at the door, that we’ll all leave our political rhetoric at the door.”
President Obama, today: “The debt ceiling should not be something that is used as a gun against the heads of the American people to extract tax breaks for corporate jet owners, for oil and gas companies that are making billions of dollars because the price of gasoline has gone up so high.”
"...oil and gas companies that are making billions of dollars because the price of gasoline has gone up so high."
Never misses an opportunity to demagogue others for the effects of his own policies, does he?
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseYou know, he doesn't apparently know how to DO anything but rhetoric. And ultimatums. And, again with the corporate jets! Is it any wonder people have quit listening? He apparently only knows how to reiterate the same tired talking points repeatedly. Anyone who disagrees with him is wrong, or childish, and has nothing of substance to offer - nice projection, Mr. President.
BAH. What a horrible experience this presidency has been. It has done more to create public cynicism than any in my memory - including Nixon's!

Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseI think Jim is the only media member to call attention to this. Suspect that will remain the case.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseObama speaks as if his entire political education consisted of reading old Paul Conrad political cartoons.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseI wonder what Chris Matthews thinks of this violent hate speech from the Tea Party Right upsetting the "new tone" after the Arizona shootings.
Oh... nevermind.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseSince other media won't call him on this, why don't you strongly urge Republican congresspeople to call him on it? Why don't you call on them to call him on his rhetoric on national TV on Good Morning America or Face the Nation? They have a platform. It isn't as good as the President's but if they all started calling him on his rhetoric, or untruths, the message would start getting across to people. Why doesn't NRO pound on Republicans to do this?

His Majesty is now in full-frontal campaign mode. He soon won't need hours or even minutes to contradict himself...he do it within the same sentences.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseNow, Jim, he said that on Tuesday about Thursday. You quoted his Wednesday position which is hardly fair given that he made no comment about Wednesday. Wednesday was fair game as will be Friday, every other day, and anything said outside the doors of the meeting on Thursday since his "hope" was only that rhetoric be left at the door where it could quickly be retrieved during breaks in the negotiations.
You are simply slurring this eloquent President quite unfairly! Might I suggest that you have a lawyer translate any further statements made by Emperor Barry I prior to your savage attacks?
