Priorities: Placate AFL-CIO, Then Hear the Intelligence Briefing

Notice the order in the president’s schedule today:

DAILY GUIDANCE AND PRESS SCHEDULE FOR

TUESDAY, AUGUST 2, 2011

In the morning, the President will meet with the AFL-CIO Executive Committee in the East Room to discuss issues important to working families, including how to continue growing our economy and putting Americans back to work. This meeting is closed press.

Later in the morning, the President will receive the Presidential Daily Briefing and then meet with senior advisors in the Oval Office. These meetings are closed press.

I guess he has to reassure his preeminent political ally about negotiations with “terrorists”* before he hears the latest update on those guys who fit the old-fashioned definition of the word.

*Terrorist hobbits, technically.

I wonder if the President recognizes the difference between the interests of the majority of working families (non-union) and the interests of working families who benefit from union representation.

On the agenda:
1. Progress report on holding up 3 trade pacts awaiting approval by the Senate;
2. Progress report on NLRB complaint against Boeing;
3. Status of proposed NLRB rules to ease union certification process;
4. How to explain away data showing that hiring slowed upon enactment of Obamacare;
5. How to explain that Obama's chief jobs advisor, Jeffrey Immlet of GE, just announced GE Medical is sending a bunch of jobs to China.
