Obama: My Accomplishments Are Just Behind LBJ, FDR and Lincoln

Just think, after his first year, Obama thought he only deserved a “B+.”

His self-esteem is finally restored:

The issue here is not gonna be a list of accomplishments. As you said yourself, Steve, you know, I would put our legislative and foreign policy accomplishments in our first two years against any president — with the possible exceptions of Johnson, F.D.R., and Lincoln.

To be fair, Lincoln's first two years saw the collapse of the union and repeated military catastrophes.

That's "possible" exception. It isn't even certain that he has to run fourth behind those guys, you know...

Mr. Geraghty -

Your headline is a bit misleading. He caveated the 'behind LBJ, FDR, or Lincoln. exception.'

I usually use 'possible' in situations to indicate something that 'could' happen but that is not probable.

Presumably an attempt to show a whisper of humility.

Obama makes Carter look like a great statesman.

At least Carter had some actual accomplishments that helped the country (deregulating transportation for instance). Obama has nothing.

You know what? Obama is actually being modest. After finishing the research on my book Never Allow A Crisis To Go To Waste, I believe that Barack Obama is the most successful president of the left after FDR. Consider what Obama has accomplished from his point of view:

> Obama nationalized two of the Big Three American automakers.

> Obama accomplished the latter half of his "blue green alliance" plan to ration and tax the fossil fuel industry out of business and then redistribute that wealth to subsidize government favored alternative energy industries. The Obama EPA is indirectly seeking to carry out the function of the cap & trade legislation even the Dem Congress would not approve.

> Obamacare will direct nearly every substantive business decision for the health insurance industry and then mandate that all Americans buy the resulting government designed product.

> The regulatory state has been enlarged by about a sixth and its output doubled over that of the Clinton and Bush administrations.

> The size of government has soared from 21% to 25% of GDP and will continue growing if Obamacare is not reversed.

If a GOP president who reduced the size and reach of government to the same extent Obama has expanded them, we libertarians and conservatives would be ready to crown him emperor for life. For all his accomplishments, Reagan did not get close to extent of change.

He has accomplished great things. Terrible things ... but great.

Bart is right on. I would add that he has also successfully harassed the states who have tried to enforce immigration law, and far more people than ever are dependent on Federal handouts. Big wins for the statists.

The people? Not so much. But that wasn't the question.

If he has no accomplishments...then the Right's charge that he's some radical socialist has no merit.

If he does have accomplishments...then what he said was right and the Right's attack on him saying so, has no merit.

Which is it?

Good to know that you can only have an ideology if you accomplish something.

That makes the 99%ers the not-so-proud champions of nothing at all, right?

I suppose the same comment would apply to 99% of Congressmen as well.

Curious if you read and study history, or just rub it with a chamois....

How can you accuse somebody of being a "radical socialist as President"...if they've "done nothing"???

That's like saying "He's a thief...even though he hasn't stolen anything."

Good to see that sophistry is still alive and well and fighting the fight against actual logic, History Buff!

Well . . . if Obama says that Obama is up there with the greats, who are we to disagree? The only other qualified judges would be those former presidents he named, and since they are no longer with us, the only person fit to evaluate Obama is Obama.

Or voters.

Next year.

Heh.

Johnson? JOHNSON?!? Foreign policy accomplishments of JOHNSON?!?!?

Lyndon Johnson? Lead-by-opinion-poll Lyndon Baines Johnson? The man Obama beat out for worst president in the history of the republic?

I think I may have ruptured an aneurism.

My thoughts exactly. His ranking of Johnson means that his judgement is even worse than his feeble attempts at humility.

According to Politico

“The president’s claim didn’t air in the show’s Dec. 11 television broadcast but was included in the full interview video that CBS posted on its website that day.”

Hmm - Why would CBS shield the viewing public from knowing how great our president thinks he is? You would imagine that such a revelation would be newsworthy. I guess CBS is not now a news organization. It would better be described as a Dem party agitprop outfit. Sad really - especially for the shareholders.

Today, Bill Henry asked Jay Carney about this Obama 60 minute clip. Carney seemed to be defending and supporting what he said when the President stepped up to the podium and cut him off.

I had a big part of getting this story out when I posted it on You Tube a week ago. Who knew?

What foreign policy achievements? It's much too soon to say he's achieved anything in Libya or Egypt -- let alone Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, North Korea, Palestine, China or Russia. In fact I wonder if Obama's improved our relations or influence anywhere at all -- maybe Belgium and Denmark perhaps?

But he did win the Nobel Peace Prize, so I guess that makes him a great statesman QED! (And Lincoln was never editor of Harvard Law Review either!!)

Are you sure he's not talking about Andrew Johnson?
