Who Knew the Key to the Economy Was Locks?

We will win the future by moving to a padlock-based economy:

President Obama praised a well-known Milwaukee company during his State of the Union address Tuesday night. The president cited Master Lock for bringing offshore jobs back to the U.S. “A few weeks ago, the CEO of Master Lock told me that it now makes business sense for him to bring jobs back home,” said Mr. Obama. “Today, for the first time in 15 years, Master Lock’s unionized plant in Milwaukee is running at full capacity.”

One of my readers quips, “Of course Master Lock is doing well. The banks and real-estate industry need all those locks to keep people out of their foreclosed homes.”

If the jobs are in Wisconsin I would assume that Scott Walker deserves some of (or most of) the credit, not the Fresh Prince of Bill Ayers.

Exactly. This whole thing is crying out for a fact check.

"Fresh Prince of Bill Ayers." GREAT line. I'm gonna steal it.

Of course - unless you have a better idea about what to put on a bagel. {I'll be here all week!}

Hilarious. But, put it together with the Obama's other line that, "What's happening in Detroit can happen in other industries," and the President's plan all begins to take shape. Have you seen any recent pictures of Detroit?

Rising property crime brought on by a lousy economy is probably also driving the sales of locks upward -- just as it has for guns.

What is missing from this is Master Lock's rationale for returning jobs to the US.

Yes, there is a serious under-reporting of those sectors of the economy that are flourishing under obama-nomics---

Who knows how bad white-collar unemployment would be without all of those foreclosures to process? And with so many foreclosed properties for banks to manage, yard service companies that have managed to stay in business are busier than ever, mowing yards that used to be mower by property owner. Eviction and repossession services have their businesses booming, not to mention pawn shops. And the business of buying up unpaid storage lockers is going through the roof.....

amazing. what big "O" fails to mention is how big of an importer Master Lock is. without those cheap Chinese components built with cheap labor, there would be no "union" jobs and the company would not be profitable. no consumer will pay a huge premium for an american made (100%) lock regardless of the brand... they are a customer of mine so this is not speculation
