The Bipartisan Medi-Scare Ads to Come

I’m not saying Republican candidates should embrace Medi-scare demagoguery. But Mickey Kaus points out that last summer President Obama accepted a deal that includes raising the eligibility age for Medicare — “$1.2 trillion in agency cuts, smaller cost-of-living increases for Social Security recipients, nearly $250 billion in Medicare savings achieved in part by raising the eligibility age” — and that the president still accepts that proposal — “White House officials said this week that the offer is still on the table.”

So if Democrats respond to Paul Ryan’s budget with the usual pushing-granny-off-a-cliff ads, the GOP can accurately run response ads that point out that President Obama supports eliminating Medicare for 65- and 66-year-old Americans . . .
