Who Is Our Commerce Secretary Again?

Isn’t the bigger story of the car accidents involving Commerce Secretary John Bryson that three years seven months into the job, in one of the most prolonged economic downturns, most of the political class and news junkies have no idea who he is?

There are low-profile members of the cabinet, and there are workhorses instead of show horses. But wouldn’t one think that during a prolonged discussion of the low pace of American commerce, and the need to get the U.S. economy moving, John Bryson would have been present enough in the public discussions to be recognizable?

UPDATE: Bryson was only confirmed in October 2011. Having said that, it offers a variation of this question: How did President Obama change Commerce Secretaries and no one notice during a time of intense economic debate?
