So, guess which candidate for president has received the legal maximum from a vice president of BP, the much-derided company that ran the Deepwater Horizon and that most environmentalists consider the current root of all evil?
If you said “Mitt Romney,” you’re wrong.
According to FEC records, so far this cycle President Obama has accepted $10,257 from 19 BP employees. That total includes the legal maximum, $5,000, from BP’s vice president Darryl Willis, head of Deepwater Horizon oil-spill claims and public-relations spokesperson for the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. He is recognizable from many BP commercials and interviews about their response to the spill.
Three BP employees have donated a total of $1,100 to Mitt Romney — one oil trader, one senior manager, and one counsel.
So President Obama enjoys a roughly 9-to-1 advantage in donations from BP employees.
