Kind of Like Getting the 2009 Super Bowl MVP for a Fifth-Round Draft Pick

The Pat Toomey campaign unveils a new web site, SpecterSwitch, marking the one-year anniversary of Arlen Specter’s switch to the Democratic party.

All things considered, though, considering how the Democrats got Specter, the higher expectations that came with 60 votes, a divided primary, and a candidate who occasionally forgets what party he’s in and complains that those who disagree aren’t “acting like ladies,” and the Republicans got nothing except a clear path for Pat Toomey . . . didn’t that trade work out pretty well for the GOP?

UPDATE: Totals for Specter in head-to-head matchups against Toomey this year: 40, 41, 43, 29, 40, 47, 36, 49, 33, 38, 30, 40. Other than a couple of outliers from Kos and one Quinnipiac, Specter’s been in the low 40s and in some cases even in the 30s. That’s a bad, bad spot for a five-term incumbent.
