Lazio Tied With Hillary
It only took a week.

By National Review Staff

ccording to a stunning new Zogby poll, Long Island Congressman Rick Lazio has pulled into a statistical dead-heat with Hillary Clinton in the New York Senate race. The new numbers have Hillary at 45.8% and Lazio at 43.8% in a survey with a margin of error of almost 4%.

A week ago Lazio was trailing by 14 points.

Says pollster John Zogby: “This didn’t take very long. Lazio had the kind of opening week that new candidates only dream about — a lot of publicity, a successful swing through the state and polling validation.”

According to the latest survey, Lazio now leads Hillary among upstate voters 46.1% to 41.4%, after trailing slightly a week ago, and has pulled ahead among suburban voters 54.1% to 36.2%, after trailing by 6 points. Lazio is now tied among independent voters.

His favorable/unfavorable rating stands at 45.9% to 11.1%.

So, just when it seemed that New York politics couldn’t have a week more dramatic than Rudy Giuliani’s recent public meltdown, Lazio has checked in with something just as stunning — a breath-down-her neck, galloping comeback charge, all in a matter of days.
