Mrs. T

by John O’Sullivan

Mrs. Thatcher’s chapters on the Falklands in her memoirs give a very lively and accurate picture of what happened and why. They are among the best chapters in the book–and for an interesting reason.

They are based closely on a long aide-memoire she dictated immediately after the conflict ended in 1982. This is how it seemed at the time, hardly if at all influenced by later second thoughts.
