The Fires Are Lying Down

At 6:45 PM, a mandatory evacuation order for 3/4 of my little suburb came down, but I was in the lucky part of the street that didn’t have to go. Then two hours later, all the mandatory and voluntary evacuations were canceled for us, so I was glad I never got off my butt. As far as I can tell from the TV, we are still at least a mile away from fire, but it’s a mile full of homes, not open brush. The firemen are there at the front, waiting to protect, and the helicopters continue to fly and dump water, despite the danger of flying in the dark.

Anyhow, I expect we will be completely fine, and I want to genuinely thank the many e-mailers who sent good thoughts, kind words, and their prayers. I am moved beyond my capacity to describe.
