Chris Mathews, bless his heart, just said that Bush now needs to put aside so-called diversity considerations and pick the best-qualified person, “a heavyweight” such as Theodore Olsen.

There are others on the Corner who know more about jurisprudence than I ever will. That said, I’d be breaking out the cigars and bongo drums if Ted Olsen were the nominee.

More to the point, as Mathews’ quasi-endorsement indicates, Olsen would be a hard nominee for the Left to knock.
