The Corner

The one and only.

Irish Times

Text

I’m standing at the corner of St. Stephen’s Green and Grafton Street in Dublin waiting for a new Irish friend to take me for a drive in the countryside.

There’s a news stand here with an ad for the Irish Times. It reads: “We look at life. You live it.”. That makes me feel rather sad for the Times journalists. Shouldn’t they get to live too? Is it really sufficient that all they get to do is look – their noses pressed against life’s window?

Speaking of journalists, I was interviewed this morning for a half hour on a Dublin radio station. The host’s views were about equivalent to Amy Goodman’s but without the tone of moral superiority. I rather enjoyed it.
