Wal-Mart: a Tired Old Song

On the subject of Wal-Mart, my organization CEI has a fascinating new study out that shows that the complaints leveled against the retail giant are exactly those leveled against every other innovation in American retail, from department stores, through Sears-Roebuck style catalogs to Woolworths and chain stores. The difference now is that the previous innovators saw the need to legitimize their activities and so overcame the opposition, whereas Wal-Mart has been slow to wake up to that need. There are lessons for many other industries in this.
