The Plane Shooting

by Jonah Goldberg

I should have known people would jump on what I said no matter what I said. I deliberately chose the word “misunderstanding” rather than a mistake, because it sounds like what the air marshalls did was correct given the circumstances. And when I said I feel terrible for everyone involved, that includes the marshalls as well. I’m sure they feel that this was a misunderstanding of some sort and regret having killed the guy. That necessarily doesn’t mean they — or I — think they were wrong for reacting the way they did. There’s plenty of time for opining on all this and I’m sure this will be investigated thoroughly. All I was looking to do is offer some sympathy.
